WATERMELON SEED AND ITS MEDICINAL VALUES

Many people are educated on the various nutritional benefits of watermelon, the vitamin A in it and its functions, the vitamin C and all other nutrients geared towards enhancing good health and helping the body to repair worn out tissues. Whether rich or poor, many people have access to watermelon especially during its season which is the dry season in west Africa and during autumn in Europe and America.
About 90% of people who eat watermelon do not eat with the seed. They eat the sweet fruit and then discard the seed which constitutes more than 70% of its medicinal benefits. Watermelon may be relatively new in West Africa because it is not up to a hundred years since it became prominent in this part of the world. In the east, north and central Africa, it has been in use as far as ancient Egypt. And it has been in East Africa right from the time of the Arab incursions. It was the Arab traders who introduced it to West Africa a couple of centuries ago. Watermelon is used to be pounded and mixed in grape wine or eaten raw to treat chronic infertility among men in ancient Egypt. It is still very much in use till today. Kikuyu midwives in central Kenya administer fresh watermelon seed to women who are pregnant to promote a healthy pregnancy and less painful labor during delivery and to help the child to grow without abnormality. It reduces internal heat.
The Ashanti women chew a handful at least three times a day to clean the womb of every impurity that could lead to cervical complications. Watermelon seed is popular among Yoruba women in Nigeria; they chew it because of its capacity to dissolve any form of fibroid seedling in the womb. A woman who is diagnosed to have full blown fibroid can chew the fresh seed three to four times a day habitually for a year and will get the fibroid torn gradually out of the womb or to shrink its size till it is completely dissolved. Alternatively, she can cultivate the habit of eating the seed alongside with the fruit on a daily basis for about a year and the fibroid will gradually vanish. According to some native midwives in rural Tanzania, in order to get rid of it permanently, patients with chronic cases of fibroid are advised to consult their gynaecologist for surgical operation., after which they will begin to administer the seed to prevent it from growing again.
Again, watermelon seed is proven to be very effective in its fight against infections in the body. It is a liver and kidney cleanser. It protects these sensitive organs from contamination. Watermelon dissolves blood clotting and helps the blood to circulate well in the body.
It is very effective for the prevention and treatment of rheumatism and arthritis, a handful of the seed three times a day will do the miracle. Even when you eat the fruit and chew the seed alongside with it at regular intervals, you are still on the right path, if you have arthritis, it will vanish over time.
If you eat it regularly, it repairs your organs and tissues and prevents them from aging. If you are the type that stresses yourself too much, you need it because it helps your body replenish energy. It is excellent for aged person because it relaxes their nerves. It helps in digestion and improves appetite.
Watermelon seed can be taken lavishly. It might be cumbersome if the seed are selected separately for medicinal purposes, so to avoid the stress, and people are advised not to discard the seed any more but to eat it alongside with the fruit because that is where the real benefit of watermelon is derived. Take time to chew the seed properly for more effect.
