Breast blisters In Birds

Breast blister is a complex condition of chickens and turkeys caused by Staphylococcus species bacteria associated with trauma, leg weakness predisposed by poor feather cover and caked wet litter on the breast muscles.
Clinical signs
Bursitis sternalis: swelling over the keel bone with bruising and discolouration.
Post-mortem lesions
Inflammation of sterna bursa along the keel bone which may in chronic cases, give way to scar tissue.
Diagnosis
Based on post-mortem lesions.
Treatment
Antibiotics should be in accordance with sensitivity.
Prevention
Good litter management.
